Engraved as follows:
"Presented by / the officers of the 30th Regiment N.I to / T. S. Lacy Esq. Asst. Surgeon / in token of their regard and esteem / and / for his invaluable services to the wounded / after / the Battle of Chillianwala / 13th Jan. 1849 / where the regiment lost / in killed and wounded / more than half the number / that went into the field."
