Paul Saunders was a major London upholder of the 1750s and 1760s, supplying important aristocratic London and country house clients and was by Royal Appointment, yeoman arras-worker to the Royal Wardrobe in 1759. He was based in St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London. Similar chairs can be found in a number of country houses, including Houghton Hall, Norfolk
