A pair of Baccarat ornithological opaline vases
attributed to Jean-François Robert (French, active 1807-1855)

The fronts painted with exotic birds including parrots within gilt cartouches with yellow and gilt foliate scrolls, the reverses with seeded ornament panels with interwoven strapwork, palmettes and foliage, the waisted necks with gilt-edged yellow ivy leaves and
interlocking strapwork, between gilt band and line borders to the rims.
Jean-François Robert was a painter at the Royal Sèvres porcelain manufactory between 1807 and 1843. He subsequently developed a technique for enamelling crystal and set up a workshop for decorating glass. He decorated opaline for Baccarat between 1843 and 1855.
