£2,000 - £3,000
A Restauration Napoleonic Empire ormolu-mounted walnut and mahogany day bed. Early 19th century.
Day beds became an integral part of the 19th century salon and as with chaise longues offered an elegant and comfortable surface for partial reclining within a social context. The structure is entirely conceived in solid mahogany.
The outward facing ends are each joined to a detached column, each surmounted at their ends by a solid mahogany ball. Rich and refined bronzes trimmings, finely chiselled, embellish them in their high and intermediate parts. Fitted with a custom-made mattress and mattress-box.
