George Smith of Chichester was one of three brothers known as the 'the Smiths of Chichester' and studied under his older brother William (1707- 64). He was Patronised by the Duke of Richmond and was the most gifted of the three brothers.
In his day he was exhibited at the Free Society of Artists and the Royal Academy. Today, his works are on public view at the Tate Britain, Victorian & Albert museum, The Yale Century for British Fine Art and The Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge.
