The well-known Pierrepont family of the United States are direct descendants of the Pierrepont’s of Holme Pierrepont Hall, Nottinghamshire, England. The family and their descendants have lived at the hall since 1280. The first Pierrepont to be granted a title was Sir Robert Pierrepont, a loyal soldier of King Charles I, who went from the titles of Baron Pierrepont and Viscount Newark becoming the Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull in 1628.
