Rhodonite, rose gold and silver photo frame. Alternating gold and silver applied flowers around running laurel border. Bearing the marks of Fabergé and bearing the marks of Fabergé work master August Hollming.
3 component-parts stamped separately. Marked ‘A.Fabergé’ in Cyrillic and struck with workmaster's mark of ‘A.H’ for Hollming, August Frederik. St. Petersburg, circa 1900-1908, scratched inventory number.
The divergent framing device for the then-popular medium of presentation portrait photography were among Fabergé’s most sought-after creations. Fabergé was strongly influenced by the tradition of hardstone carving in Russia, with Rhodonite (a form of striated pink marble found in the Ural Mountains of Russia) one of the stones used most frequently.
